Benton is an incorporated town in Newcastle upon tyne. Benton Metro station dates from 1871 and is still used regularly. The name Benton means determined, fixed, set and resolved, but technically, Longbenton Community College is in Benton that is the reason to get the name Benton. Benton is located in North East England on Tyne River.
Benton is quite a nice area - you may be able to find something within walking distance. Gosforth or Jesmond are the neighboring towns. To know about Benton we should know about Newcastle. Newcastle ranges from the ancient to the modern, the name of the city dates from Norman times when a new castle was built by Henry II. Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside has seen huge changes over the past few years. New buildings such as the Sage Centre and the Millennium bridge make this area a must see also on the quayside are some of the oldest properties in Newcastle, Bessy Surtees house dating back to the 1700's is a fine example of Jacobean architecture. Benton has gone through many stages in its history as a town, from the 17th to the mid 20th century. Today, however, the town is mostly reliant on office and retail businesses for its economy, and has become a cultural hub. The first Biotechnology Village or "Centre for Life" in the United Kingdom was also established in Newcastle upon Tyne, which has helped transform the city into a scientific centre as well as a cultural one. Like most other places in England Benton, Newcastle upon Tyne is overwhelmingly caucasian and non-practicing Christian (92% of population). However, there are significant Indian, Pakistani, Muslim, Jewish and Chinese minorities in the city. The presence of these different people reflects the cultural unity in diversity of Benton. There is no allegation to say, that Benton is one of the safest areas in England. Visits to the area are 99% trouble-free and mostly, people go away with great memories of the place.
The locals are known as Geordies, and they have a distinct character and dialect. The accent can be difficult to interpret at first, but accustomisation is fairly quick and easy. Geordies are proud of their reputation of friendliness and often will always go out of their way to help you. Over the last 15 years the Newcastle Quayside has been redeveloped and that combined with the development of the south side of the river in Gateshead has turned this area into one of the most stunning city scapes in the world, which is very nearer to Benton. Most clubs & bars in Benton allow t-shirts & jeans to be worn. Trainers (tennis shoes) are a bit of an issue come the weekend though, so it's best to pack a good pair of shoes.
The weather in Benton, as with many parts of the United Kingdom, is quite variable, but on the whole, it is usually quite dry. This attribute is thanks to the Pennines, which cast a rain shadow over much of the North East of England. Typically, winters are cold and dry, with fog and mist a common occurrence. Snow usually falls for around 14 days in the season but doesn't accumulate greatly and temperatures range from -12C to +7C. This season lasts from late November to mid March.
Spring, from mid March to late June, brings warmer, wetter weather, owing to the predominant Atlantic low pressure systems that sweep the U.K. at this time of year from all points west. Bring a wide range of clothing, though an umbrella and raincoat wouldn't go amiss. Warm, dry days are not unknown either. It can be said spring is the most variable time of year in this region, with temperatures dipping to -5C, yet climbing to +20C at times. Summer, late June to late September, usually provides warm and dry weather, with the odd heat wave thrown in for good measure! Most of the weather at this time of year comes in from Europe or the Azores, so high pressure and sunshine dominate, the odd thunderstorm crops up too, and temperatures range from 15C to 35C.
Autumn occupies early October to late November and is again quite a variable time of year. Typically, it'll start with an Indian Summer, warm and sunny by day, rather cool by night, descending into cool and rather wet weather. If there's going to be a storm (heavy rain and sustained winds above 90kmh), this is the time of year it'll most likely happen.
There are numerous methods of travel within the city and Benton. The Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive coordinates an extensive bus network throughout the Benton, Newcastle-Gateshead area with buses being operated by some reputed Transport agencies.Newcastle along with Benton has a light rail system called the Tyne and Wear Metro. One line goes from the city's airport to South Hylton (Sunderland) via the city centre, while another goes from St James' via the North Tyne side Coast loop to South Shields. The Benton has a metro railway station, which is one of the oldest in world and still operating and attracting the crowd.
The neighboring towns of Benton are Jesmond and Ousborn. The Ouseburn is a former industrial area turned entertainment venue. It runs from Byker Bridge in the north right down to the river Tyne and is home to a number of semi-chic pubs and live music venues. The Ship Inn and Free Trade pubs provide a traditional English pub setting whilst The Cluny and The Tyne show something a little different, with an art gallery and freshly-made food at the former and an outdoor stage under a road bridge at the latter. Jesmond is full of good quality cheap restaurants, bars offering Happy Hours and a number of hotels. Well recommended for those who want to get away from the centre of the city but still want a good time and atmosphere.
